The programs and services at Kristi House and the Orlowitz-Lee Children’s Advocacy Center are made possible through the generosity and support of individuals, corporations and private foundations, combined with local, state and federal funding. In some instances, individual and corporate contributions are used as matching funds to obtain grants. With public funding only covering a little over half of the cost of services needed by our community each year, the impact of these donations cannot be overstated.
The most common way to support Kristi House is through a gift of cash. Please ask your employer if your gift may be doubled through a matching program. If you would like to make a financial gift, please click here for our secure, online system. Competitive Government Grants & Contracts
Kristi House competes for local, state and federal grants on an ongoing basis. State and local funding is received from the Department of Children and Families, Miami-Dade County Office of Grants Management, City of Miami Gardens, the State of Florida and the Victims of Crimes Act (VOCA). All grant funds are restricted to providing child-victims specific services at Kristi House.
Kristi House receives major federal funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, National Children’s Alliance and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through grant awards. Currently, Kristi House receives federal SAMHSA funds for a community capacity building four-year program around evidence-based interventions for child sexual-related trauma, the Miami C-START program. Funds from the Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and Office of Victims of Crime support Project GOLD with funding for enhancing community mentoring and reaching specialized populations of human trafficking victims. As with many state and federally funded programs, monies are never guaranteed. The pies show the breakdown of funding sources and how they are used.
Private, Corporate, and Family Foundation Gifts and Grants
Through referrals, personal contacts and corporate recommendations, Kristi House seeks funding from private, corporate, and family foundations to support program operations each year. Grants from such foundations cover a range of programming, therapeutic and technological systems. If you are aware of a foundation with an emphasis on health and human services, education, or children’s issues, please forward the appropriate contact information to our Director of Community Relations, Natalie Brown.
Fundraisers and Special Events
Roaring 20s Soiree (November 6, 2015)
Kristi House is celebrating a milestone year in 2015: 20 years of healing the hearts of children who have been sexually abused. An event befitting 20 years of service is in the works: a Roaring 20s Soiree, to be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Miami’s Four Seasons.
This elegant evening will have all the hallmark features of Kristi House’s long-running, signature Touch a Heart Dinner – great cuisine, great wine and a luxury auction – with live orchestra music, dancing, cigars and brandy to cap off the evening…a roaring good time!
The Four Seasons’ Chef Aaron has created a scrumptious, four-course gourmet dinner menu and Republic National Distributing Company will be providing fine wine pairings and spirits befitting the 1920s era. In between courses, auction items are offered by a professional charity auctioneer. Limited to just 10 items, the live auction features the crème-de la crème of the destinations and special experiences. More about the event.
Breaking the Silence Annual Luncheon (April 15, 2016)
Breaking the Silence is Kristi House’s program to forever end the silence on child sexual abuse in our community. Core to this effort is building awareness of Kristi House and the staggering statistic that child molesters are not strangers; in more than 90% of sexual abuse cases, the child and the child’s family know and trust the abuser. These perpetrators shatter childhoods and steal children’s innocence forever. Worse still, the effects of abuse haunts children for years, increasing the likelihood of drug and alcohol dependency, eating disorders, teen pregnancy, delinquency, violent crime and debilitating fear. Kristi House hosts facility tours and informational sessions to acquaint those with concern and capacity to help with this new awareness crusade.
15 Successful Years: Touch A Heart Dinner & Auction at Four Seasons
For 15 years Kristi House’s signature Touch a Heart Dinner & Auction raised 10-15% of the organization’s annual budget for Kristi House programs and services. Many generous volunteers, sponsors and friends made this elegant, five-course gourmet dinner with fine wine pairings a financial success supporting Kristi House services. The evening’s events included live and silent auctions featuring rare wines, exquisite vacations, exclusive dinners and VIP tickets. For Kristi House’s 20th Anniversary, a celebration with dancing will be held. The Roaring 20s Soiree will mark 20 years of uninterrupted services to child victims of sexual abuse on November 6, 2015.
