About Breaking the Silence…
…Kristi House’s program to forever end the silence on child sexual abuse.
Core to this effort is building awareness of Kristi House and the staggering statistic that child molesters are not strangers: in the vast majority of sexual abuse cases, the child and the child’s family know and trust the abuser. And further, one out of 10 children will be sexually abused by the age of 18. In seconds, their childhoods are shattered, their innocence stolen forever. Worse still, the effects haunt them for years, increasing the likelihood of drug and alcohol dependency, eating disorders, teen pregnancy, delinquency, violent crime and debilitating fear.
Kristi House launched Breaking the Silence in 2007 to garner attention and support from concerned and caring individuals and business leaders who can assist in our mission of protecting and healing children from child sexual abuse. Many have joined this effort, sharing our vision of ending child sexual abuse in our community. Badia Spices and Leon Medical Centers have been our lead underwriters.
Through Breaking the Silence and other community outreach, we have witnessed growing community awareness and understanding of the pervasiveness and trauma wrought by child sexual abuse. We have seen it is possible to educate and build awareness around this difficult subject, and consequently improve the fate of many innocent victims.
Find out more….Kristi House is hosting a series of facility tours and informational sessions to acquaint those with the concern and the capacity to help with this new awareness crusade.
